The three-book Sawyer Brooks, crime reporter series has been a fun read with a different twist on solving murders. Spunky Sawyer, a woman with a troubled past, worked hard to bring her sisters together, resolve her troubled upbringing, and become an insightful reporter with an eye for finding truth amid challenging and complex homicides.This installment brings Sawyer closer to solving the mystery of "The Crew" or the black wig murderers, while facing her own demons. Of the three books, this one had more subplots and than the other two, providing more questions, suspects, and murderss, making it a strong, suspenseful read.The strengths of this installment was the tighter storyline, the well-developed characters emerging from the first two series books, and the stronger person Sawyer has become: all elements that helped create a satisfying escape read. As such, this is not a standalone read.The unpredictable ending seems to work out well, but the overall backstory could spawn another series grouping should author T.R. Ragan develop that option.Overall, I have enjoyed this book and two previous installments purely as entertainment, even though the subject matter likely deserves a more substantial storytelling outcome and more serious development.The Audible narration seemed to work generally well, adding some drama and pacing but without overworking the narrative.
